THE SOCIETY OF HISPANIC PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS

UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA, RENO


ARTICLE I

Name of Organization

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers 


ARTICLE II

PURPOSE & OBJECTIVE

Mission

The purpose of this student chapter and SHPE is to empower the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential; and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support and development.

Objective

  1. Increase the number of Hispanic engineering and science student at The University of Nevada, Reno.

  2. Promote the advancement of Hispanic engineers and scientist in employment and education.

  3. Develop and participate in events and programs with industries and universities with the goal of enhancing student’s interest in the pursuit of technical degrees.

  4. Provide a mentoring program for the students at the University of Nevada, Reno in order to maintain the enrollment rate in engineering and science.



ARTICLE III

ASSOCIATION


SECITON 1. AFFILIATION 

The University of Nevada, Reno Student chapter will be an affiliated chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE Inc). The organization possesses the right to adopt its Rules and procedures within the framework of SHPE’s rules and regulations and the University's rules and regulations. This student chapter will be part of the “local” as defined by the Regional Vice-President and the local professional chapter presidents.

SECTION 2. NON-DISCRIMINATION

  • Anyone can become a member of SHPE, if they wish to follow our path in helping students engage in the STEM programs, have a professional attitude, and have a good academic standing.

    • “The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers of the University of Nevada, Reno does not discriminate with respect to membership on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, age, sex, gender identity, socio-economic status, physical or mental impairment, or sexual orientation” 


ARTICLE IV

OFFICERS/EXECUTIVE BOARD


SECTION I


Officers shall consist of two Co-presidents, First Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Webmaster. The term of office is one year.


SECTION II


Co-presidents

  • The Co-presidents shall be the head administrator and be responsible for all formal actions taken on behalf of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. Both individuals shall have full power in the management and business of the chapter and shall set and establish all the policy of the chapter.

Vice President

  •  The Vice President shall assist the Co-presidents in all business concerning the chapter and shall be in charge of the external affairs of the chapter. The Vice President also be in charge if both Co-presidents are absent.


Secretary 


  • The Secretary shall post the meetings main points. The Secretary will also be in charge of keeping the assistance and contact information of all the members in the student chapter. The Secretary shall be responsible for tallying the election votes. 


Treasurer

  • The Treasurer shall keep books and records on money received and disbursed. The Treasurer shall present financial reports to the President. The Treasurer will also be in charge of the general memberships. The Treasurer will take on special assignments and tasks as directed by the SHPE President and overseen by the SHPE advisor.



ARTICLE V

ELECTIONS/VOTING

  • Officers shall be elected by the members of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, and hold the office one year.  

  • No Member shall hold more than one office at a time within the same organization.


ARTICLE VI

VOTING ELIGIBILITY, QUORUM, AND MAJORITY


  • As of right now there shall be no election open to the public, elections shall be done by the members of and the SHPE advisor. 

  • Any member is eligible to vote

  • A voting majority is 2/3



ARTICLE VII

OFFICER REMOVAL, APPEAL, AND REPLACEMENT PROCESSES

  • The process to elect or select a new officer for the one removed

    • A member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers is free to resign at any time for any reason, and can only be removed by a 2/3 majority.


ARTICLE VIII

MEETINGS

  • Members should attend meetings when told by the officers, dates and time would be released to members by the officers as soon as established.
